June 20, 2010 We just got back from Sand Dunes National Park in the Southwest portion of Colorado. This is where we spent Annalee/'s 30th birthday and Quinn's very first camping trip. I must say that this camping trip was the picture perfect car camping trip. RV and campervans all around us, running water and toilets, and a sink to wash the dishes. But, either way, a perfect place for the whole family and first trip! I have never seen a more filthy boy ever! Food, dirt, soot, sunscreen and bug spray covered the little man from head to toe. Quinn loved the "big water" which was actually a tiny creek that ran through the sand dunes. The creek had a sand base, so it was ever changing and fun to walk through. He loved throwing rocks into the creek, hiking like a big boy, and sleeping in the tent. He has a new fascination with rocks, especially big rocks that can make a splash in big water. Quinn experienced mosquitoes and the owwies they leave. "Go away skeetos, go away" Quinn would say. Even with Off covering our whole body the mosquitoes would swarm around us in the early evening. We have never quite seen them like that before. They sand gets really hot around two in the afternoon. So hot that we had to carry the dogs to make it to the water to throw more rocks. We learned after that day when to not go down. Luckily we were able to have a campfire. This meant Quinn was able to experience his first marshmallow. He loved every moment of eating and wearing those marshmallows. By the end of the four days, Quinn had camping dialed! He did not want to go home but to "go to tent, no home". On our drive home, Quinn kept saying "no home" which cracked us up, since on the drive there Quinn kept saying "go home". Ahh.... the life of an indecisive toddler. It was so much fun. Reality is a hard thing to come back to.

May 10, 2010 Here are a bunch of pictures from Mother/'s Day.Quinn/'s new thing is jumping. He has learned how to jump off two feet. He now can jump off of the couch.

April 11, 2010 Life has been busy and great yet I keep forgetting to update Quinn's site. Two things Quinn has learned lately that are worth noting. He has learned how to crawl through the doggy door. I f he wants to go outside to his small basketball hoop, he goes. It is the funniest thing to see his little feet falling through the door.He has learned how to jump and get his feet off of the ground. Not more than an inch, but still off the ground. I would like to get him a small trampoline for the living room. Quinn has been getting better on his skateboard. He can kneel on one knee and push with his foot. He hasn't quite learned how to turn but he can go.
Quinn is always good for comic relief. |
January 23, 2010 We brought Quinn to his 15 month appointment a little late. A little closer to 17 months. He is healthy and in the 50th percentile for height. Yet he is only 19 pounds 9 oz. That puts him at less than third percentile. I swear we feed him as much as possible, but he is just going to be a skinny kid.
He is a natural born climber. He now has figured out how to push his little chair close to the bigger chairs then climb up on them. He discovered how to grab the back side of the toilet seat and pull himself on to the lid. From there he can flush the toilet and turn the sink on. He is pretty proud of that one. He loves going to the playground on our dog walks. He started to try and go down the slide big boy style by sitting up and sliding. His previous technique was to turn around on his stomach and slide.

January 12, 2010 We had a great trip back home to Oregon, just the two of us. It would have been too expensive to kennel the dogs for the time back so Annalee stayed here. We stayed with my Mom and Dana, they were great. They cooked some delicious meals and played some mean games of Settlers of Catan.Quinn usually loves baths yet on this trip he could never relax in the tub. He learned some new words and met a lot of new people (to him). He would always glare at me when new people would come over. "Dad more people?!" You could just hear him saying it. He adjusted quickly to most groups especially when there were other little ones around. He had a great time with his second cousins. I had a great time seeing everybody. It was nice to go skiing at Willamette Pass with Shawn and Dad. We haven't skied there together for 14 years! Yet VERY little has changed at the mountain. Thanks to everybody for a great time.

December 20, 2009 Reading different articles on when a child is ready to be moved out of a crib we didn't get a solid answer. Some said to wait until he asks to be moved into a big kids bed. So that means he needs to be old enough to form complete sentences? I am pretty sure he does not need to be in a crib till he is three or four. Just easier for the parents. So we made the decision to try it out and see how it works. Today is the first day of Quinn sleeping on a big kids bed. We'll see how it works out. He has been taking his naps on a mattress on the floor since the first day of daycare. He might fall off, but it is not more than a foot to the floor. He'll be fine and learn quickly to avoid doing that. I am just waiting for the mornings when we come into his room to see all of his books and stuffed animals spread across the floor.

December 14, 2009 Quinn has another tooth coming in. The good thing about a new tooth is the snuggles you get. The bad thing is fever and stuffed up nose that comes along with it.

November 11, 2009 From walking to runnning.... it's on now. The house is becoming more and more Quinn proofed. Yet he will always overcome.
