8/23/08 The adventure of labor started on Thursday night 8/21/08. Mild contractions throughout the night. Work the next day for Annalee went ok. Not many contractions during the day. Then she stayed awake for a greater part of the night with stronger contractions. There was a couple of series of contractions throughout the day.
With the last series of times, we thought it was "time". We drove to the hospital at 9:15 PM. The parking lot we were supposed to park in was closed due to the DNC. That made things a little confusing. But why would n't there be at least something to get in the way. Here is his heartbeat from their machine.
(It is really quiet.)

8/24/08 Annalee had contractions all night and all day. She didn't have enough energy for a walk. The contractions became longer and more painful. I tried to get her to eat food when I could, and give the occasional back massage. I mainly did chores around the house. I shaved some wood off of Quinn's bedroom door so it would close a little easier, mowed the lawn, walked the dogs, and finished the covers on the horseshoe pits. Oh ya and worked on this web site. |

8/25/08 Really strong contractions started about 4:14am. This time they were more intense. The frequency was about every five minutes. I don't have a list of times this time... need I remind you it was 4:15am. But I did look at the clock each time one started and stopped. It was about 30 minutes in when Annalee says "I think that we are going to have to go". About 20 minutes later we were in the car heading to the hospital. The traffic was great. Just cruised all the way in. Annalee was in a lot of pain. I felt like I was in a movie when the wife is controlling her breathing and in lots of pain as you drive to the hopital. We showed up and she was just hoping not to get sent home again. She was dilated to 3-4cm. They accepted her in and asked "What were you planning on using for your pain management?". She didn't even hesitate to answer "Epidural". We got moved up to the delivery room and she was hooked up to some good drugs. Now it was relaxing. The contractions died off because of the epidural. So she had to start taking Pitocin. The day progressed nicely. Every couple hours they would check her cervix and it would keep stretching. About 8 hours later our nurse checked her and saw that she was around 9.5cm. She said "Lets try pushing a couple times and see what happens.". Annalee started pushing and Quinn started coming down and out. She pushed for about 30-40 minutes. It was just a nurse and I holding her legs and helping coach her. When Quinn's head started to show the nurse called in the doctor to catch. We all started looking at Quinn's hair and talking about what color and if he had curls. Annalee had the original thought "If he doesn't have curls, he is going back in.". That thought didn't occur at this time. She didn't think it was so funny that we were talking about his hair so light hearted. But we were all great cheerleaders. Then we got to meet Quinn's face! |
